Description
1921 Peace Dollar, Highly Sought After! 1st Year of Issue, Well Struck and in High Relief! Free Shipping!Up for auction is a higher grade example of a special one-year type coin, a 1921 Peace Dollar. It shows very little circulation, if any, since the day it was minted, with just a little wear on the high points. This coin may have been put away for many years by the original owner. Take a look at the detail! I recently sold a mint state specimen on eBay for over ,000. If you want a a very detailed coin without spending four figures, I strongly suggest you consider this one!
A little bit of history for this one-year type coin - Just over a million pieces of the new Peace Dollar were struck with the 1921 date, all of them at Philadelphia and during the final four days of that year. The coins were stuck in high relief, meaning that the central design was higher than the rest of the coin. Less than two weeks later in January 1922, the Mint temporarily halted production of the Peace Dollars, as it had been determined that the excessive pressure needed to strike the coins to fully bring up the central details resulted in rapid deterioration and breakage of dies. As a result, the relief on both sides was lowered and thus, low relief dies were used to strike Peace Dollars throughout the remaining years of the series (1922-1928 & 1934-1935). This is the only high relief date Peace Dollar you can realistically own. There were some high relief proofs struck in 1921 and 1922, but the prices are astronomical!
I have seen many 1921 Peace Dollars with very flat strikes. I urge you to look at coins that are selling or have sold on eBay. Although this coin is not absolutely 100% fully struck, you can see that it does have strong, excellent detail on both sides - a better than average strike. There is a little bit of weakness and wear around the ear area on the obverse and just a touch of wear and weakness on the right side of the eagle’s right wing on the reverse. The coin toned over the years. It has much underlying luster on the obverse and 85-90% luster on the reverse. There are a few scattered marks and tiny rim dings on both sides, probably acquired due to poor storage - again, I believe the coin was put away for many years when originally acquired and not in active circulation. There are no signs of an abrasive cleaning or hairlines. It has good eye appeal and would look nice in your collection without having to spend a fortune!
This coin will be sent postpaid and fully insured to the buyer, a .00+ savings! Grab it right away for 5.00 or start the bidding at {{detail_product_description}}.99 and good luck! This coin is in high demand and is sure to draw many bidders!
